Funkin Matt is a producer and DJ based in Oslo, Norway. He’s the A&R for Fjordin Records, a label he runs in collaboration with Gregor Salto. His music philosophy is to always bring something new to the table and erase the borders between genres.

Raised on country and western music in the outskirts of the Norwegian oil town Stavanger, Hans-Peter Lindstrøm now lives in Oslo where he is making contemporary disco and running his Feedelity label. Claiming that “Hans-Peter Lindstrom is closing in on Henrik Ibsen and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as being Norway’s poster boy of choice” (quoting an article on Piccadilly Records website) is obviously quite an overstatement, but nonetheless his original approach to dance music is currently causing quite a stir.

Less than a year after her solo debut, Maya Vik is about to release her second solo album, entitled “Bummer Gun”. The album will be released digitally worldwide on August 10th, and features contributions from a variety of international talent.

After taking the aliases as Terminator Kjex and Cheesy, two bored Norwegians spent their lifesavings on a big pile of cheese and biscuits, some studio equipment and locked themselves away for about two years. Oppmerksomheten rundt Phil T. Rich startet på alvor etter debututgivelsen – ”Kom, så, tok færdiih”. Med sitt unike vokabular og fremførelse av det norske språket, er den kompromissløse utgivelsen både leken og innovativ for sin sjanger – utgitt av B.A.W.S Entertainment, er Phil både grunnlegger og artist i det kreative kollektivet startet opp i 2009.

Their rise was swift and surprising. Back in 2005 Norway’s Serena Maneesh found themselves championed by Pitchfork on one side of the Atlantic and Drowned In Sound on the other, and suddenly the band’s self-titled debut (initially released on Norwegian indie HoneyMilk, later reissued on Playlouder) became one of those rare things: a genuine word of mouth success. In a year that yielded such uncomplicated music delights as Hard-Fi and Kaiser Chiefs, here was an album that you could lose yourself in and a band you could believe in. Carefully constructed from the familiar (My Bloody Valentine, The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, Neu!) and the not so familiar (black metal, Norwegian composers such as Grieg and Fartein Valen), their wall of sound was unlike anything you’d ever heard before.

One dark Norwegian winter night back in 2001 I had my first experience with Silver. They had been touring England for a couple of weeks and were back in Norway to complete their Zoom tour. The venue obviously was too big considering the crowd of 30, and my expectations were low. But as the band entered the stage my jaw dropped. The energy! The vigour! The melody! The
attitude! I was stunned. This band was tight like Joey Ramone’s Levi’s jeans, furious like Lemmy without his morning JD, as fast as it was furious, still as cool as The Fonz. I had no idea this species existed in the flora of Norwegian rock’n’roll.

Etter å ha etablert seg i musikkbransjen ved å produsere og remixe artister som Lars Vaular, Bertine Zetlitz, Montee, Ralph Myerz, Adam Tensta, Datarock, Susanne Sundfør, Razika, Mange Schmidt, Fjorden Baby! og mange fler, startet Souldrop i 2011 sin egen artistkarriere.

Det er under et år siden Sweden ga ut debutskiva si, «Under the Sycamore Tree», og responsen de har fått siden den gang har vært overveldende både for band og plateselskap. Singlene «Tomorrow Calling» og «Hey C’mon» har vært listet på radioen i snart et år, sammenhengende, og de har turnert Norge rundt med sin catchy og vanedannende popmusikk.

Vokalist og låtskriver Thea Glenton Raknes (25) har vokst opp dels i hippiekollektiv i Oslo med sin engelske mor og dels blant svenske proggrockere på sin fars trebåt langs svenskekysten. Hun har laget dikt, sanger og musikk siden hun var rundt 10 år gammel og har etter hvert funnet sitt hjem på scenen hvor hun fremfører musikken sin selvsikkert og overbevisende.
